Detail 1A. Graphic granite, an intimate and crystallographically oriented intergrowth of microcline and quartz, is a ubiquitous feature of pegmatites. Crystals are oriented perpendicular to the footwall contact of the pegmatite. Uncommonly, the layering in surrounding aplites runs through giant graphic granite crystals.
